When selecting roman shades, start with the room’s purpose. For restful spaces, opt for soft neutrals or room-darkening fabrics. For high-traffic areas, choose easy-to-clean materials. If your room has architectural features like arches or French doors, request custom sizing to ensure your shades move freely and fit well. Use subtle patterns to add interest without overwhelming the space. And always test swatches in your own lighting. Natural light can change how fabric looks. A well-chosen roman shade not only completes your window it anchors your entire space.

FAQ’S

How are Roman Shades different than other shades?

The main difference is how the fabric folds up when raised, lending to its destictive look. Narural Shades also do this, making them technically Natural Roman Shades.
Like all shades and blinds, inside mount refers to mounting the shade within the windows trim, and outside refers to mounting on the wall above the window. The main difference is that the outside mount completely covers the entire window ( though sometimes the sill and bottom apron are left visible ), and inside mount leaves your trim exposed. Outside mounting can give you more privacy and better light control. Outside mounting also utilizes the wall space above to park the shade on, blocking much less of the window when raised. Inside mount is considered a cleaner look, but the shade can only be raised so far, leaving the folded up shade blocking some of your view and light.
Most comanpanies have discontinued there top down Roman shades due to new cord regulations. Weather they can be custom made seems to be somewhat a grey area in the law. With the totally custom versions, everyone has there own way of making them, and they all have quirks and drawbacks, like lots of exposed strings. If you are interested in a top down treatment, we suggest looking at Honeycomb shades.
There are 4 variations of Romans ( each with multiple options ) Flat style: Completely flat across the front. (Good for patterened fabrics) Paneled Roman: Has regularly spaced stitching across the front, making the shade look like it is made with panels of fabric (not good for patterened fabric). Relaxed Romans. A flat style with a gently curving bottom. Hobbled Roman: Made with loops of fabric.
Absolutely. A common design is Romans on single windows to the right and left of a bed, and draperies on any larger windows within a bedroom. Shades can also be layered under drapery.
